Every time I reach a milestone goal, the feeling of pride and satisfaction includes a deep gratitude for “my” club. The CDTC has been instrumental, fundamental, and supportive every step of the way. From my first Puppy K class with a young and exuberant Fenway to our appearance at the AKC National Rally Championships with a polished and trained Fenway, I have been acutely aware that none of it would have been possible without the wonderful classes, training groups and seminars at our club.
And, none of these would have been possible without our volunteer instructors and assistants. I am deeply appreciative of the time our members have taken to teach our classes. They have done so much to teach the rest of us how to train our dogs to be a delight in many ways—from well behaved members of the family to top competitor.
In addition to our class instructors, there have been many informal training groups that have come together to help practice, sort out problems and provide extra time to polish a team’s performance for various competitions. On a personal level, I am so grateful for the chance to work with a variety of members who are so generous with their ideas and observations.
Therefore, I would like to put forth the idea to our entire membership that volunteering to teach, learning to teach by assisting in a class and joining a training group will improve not only your training and performance, it will enrich your entire experience with the club. Friendships and partnerships develop from the simple act of participating and volunteering.
There are also many events such as monthly run-thrus, our club’s obedience, rally and agility trials and our parties that need volunteers to help make them happen. The tasks are simple and, as we all know, many hands make light work!
We have a wonderful club and I have learned over the years that it is not only about the dogs! So please join in, sign up and come have fun!
